Why Gosha Rubchinskiy is more than a brand.
Gosha Rubchinskiy is a Russian fashion designer born in 1984. His self titled clothing brand has become very popular in recent years earning him collaborations with Adidas, FILA and even Burberry.
Gosha started his career off as a hairdresser and makeup artist but always had a love and passion for fashion and photography. Soon he began his own clothing line and presented his first collection in 2008. His stays true to himself by giving his designs a distinctly Russian vibe.
Gosha is more than just clothing. He gives a creative voice to all of post soviet Russia's youth. Gosha exercises freedom that the Russians haven't had very long and encourages this whole generation to do the same.
Gosha's designs are noticeably different than other popular streetwear brands. The clothing has a strong 90's punk feel to it. Skate culture has also heavily influenced his creative process. For his latest collection he had a nationwide casting call for models for his show. He wanted to capture the look of Russia's modern youth, which he did very well.
Whether or not you like his clothing, you have to give credit to Gosha Rubchinskiy for his creativity and unapologetic loyalty to the youth of his homeland. He's doing things that have never been done in streetwear before and he does it consistently. I have a feeling Gosha will be around to inspire Russia's youth for many years to come.
